Almost 30 Years After Acrimonious Split With Owner Jerry Jones

Two-Time Super Bowl Champion and 1990 AP NFL Coach of the Year to be Honored

Jimmy Johnson, the two-time Super Bowl champion and 1990 AP NFL Coach of the Year, is headed into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. The announcement was made on February 20, 2024, at 09:15 AM FRISCO, Texas. Johnson was hired by the struggling Dallas Cowboys in 1989 to revive the once-proud franchise. He served five seasons with the Cowboys and guided the team to two Super Bowl victories, in XXVII and XXVIII.

Johnson's tenure with the Cowboys was not without its controversy. He was fired by owner Jerry Jones in 1994 after a power struggle between the two men. The acrimonious split left a bitter taste in the mouths of both Johnson and Jones.

Despite the acrimonious split, Johnson's accomplishments with the Cowboys cannot be denied. He is one of the most successful coaches in franchise history, and his induction into the Ring of Honor is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
