Documentary Filmmaker Took on Fast-Food Industry

Oscar-Nominated Filmmaker Succumbs to Cancer Complications

LOS ANGELES (January 16, 2023) -- Morgan Spurlock, the acclaimed documentary filmmaker known for his groundbreaking work on the film Super Size Me, has passed away at the age of 53 due to complications from cancer.

Spurlock gained worldwide recognition in 2004 after releasing Super Size Me, a film that chronicled his 30-day experiment eating only McDonald's food. The film exposed the unhealthy practices of the fast-food industry and raised awareness about the obesity epidemic. Super Size Me went on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

Beyond Super Size Me, Spurlock directed and produced numerous other documentaries, including The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden? His work often explored themes of consumerism, food culture, and social issues.

Spurlock's family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. They expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences.
