Houston Astros’ Jon Singleton suspended 80 games for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program

Astros’ first baseman Jon Singleton has been suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a banned substance

The suspension is the result of Singleton violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The Houston Astros announced today that first baseman Jon Singleton has been suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a banned substance.

The suspension is the result of Singleton violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Singleton tested positive for a banned substance following a test conducted on May 26, 2023.

“We are disappointed by Jon’s decision to use a banned substance,” Astros general manager James Click said in a statement. “We fully support Major League Baseball’s efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing drugs from the game.”

Singleton is currently serving a 10-game suspension for violating MLB’s COVID-19 protocols. He will begin serving the 80-game suspension once his current suspension is complete.

The Astros acquired Singleton from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade in December 2022. He was expected to compete for a starting role at first base this season.

In 10 games with the Astros this season, Singleton is batting .214 with one home run and three RBIs.
