Miami Dolphins News: A Fresh Start for the New Season

Dolphins Begin Preseason with Impressive Win

The Miami Dolphins started their preseason with a bang, dominating the Chicago Bears 34-14 in their first exhibition game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa looked sharp, completing 12 of 18 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Raheem Mostert also impressed, rushing for 58 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries.

Strong Defensive Performance

The Dolphins' defense was equally impressive, holding the Bears to just 182 total yards. Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah recorded two sacks, while cornerback Xavien Howard had an interception. The defense also forced two fumbles, one of which was recovered by safety Jevon Holland.

The Dolphins will look to build on their strong preseason start when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in their second exhibition game on August 21.

Dolphins Make Roster Cuts

The Dolphins made their first round of roster cuts on August 15, reducing their roster to 80 players. Among the players cut were wide receiver Preston Williams, running back Salvon Ahmed, and defensive end Trey Flowers.

Tough Decisions for Coaching Staff

The Dolphins' coaching staff had some tough decisions to make with their first round of roster cuts. Williams and Ahmed were both expected to contribute this season, but they failed to impress in the preseason. Flowers, a former Pro Bowler, was also a surprise cut, but he has been slowed by injuries in recent years.

The Dolphins will have to make even more difficult decisions when they cut their roster to 53 players by August 30.

Dolphins Sign Veteran Cornerback

The Dolphins signed veteran cornerback Mackensie Alexander to a one-year contract on August 17. Alexander, a five-year NFL veteran, has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, and New Orleans Saints.

Depth at Cornerback

Alexander gives the Dolphins some much-needed depth at cornerback. With Byron Jones and Nik Needham expected to start, Alexander will likely compete for the nickel cornerback role. He could also see time as a backup safety.

The Dolphins are hoping that Alexander can help them improve their pass defense, which ranked 29th in the NFL last season.
