Miami Marlins Head to Washington for Series with Nationals
Marlins Look to Build on Road Success
The Miami Marlins will open a three-game series with the Washington Nationals on Monday. Miami is coming off a 3-2 series win against the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend while the Nationals are looking to bounce back from a series loss to the New York Mets.
The Marlins have been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star break, winning 15 of their last 20 games. They are now just 3.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the National League.
The Nationals, on the other hand, have struggled since the break, going just 10-18. They are now 14.5 games out of first place in the NL East.
Pitching Matchups
Sandy Alcantara (12-5, 1.76 ERA) will start for the Marlins on Monday. He will be opposed by Josiah Gray (7-7, 4.48 ERA) for the Nationals.
Alcantara has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He leads the National League in ERA and WHIP. Gray has also been solid for the Nationals, but he has not been as dominant as Alcantara.
Outlook
The Marlins are the clear favorites in this series. They have the better team on paper and they are playing with more confidence. The Nationals will need to play their best baseball to pull off an upset.
